June 15th thru 19th 2006

Dad and I spent four days and three nights getting to and cruising on the Pamunkey River. The Pamunkey might be the most beautiful river that we have sailed in Virginia
(I'd have to say that the Pasquotank on the north side of the locks at Elizabeth City North Carolina is the most beautiful river I've sailed).

At Queen's creek we spotted a red fox while at anchor. There was also an entertaining heron that just keep walking the shore line.

On the way back we say a US Navy submarine - this was the first time I saw one underway.
I've wanted to see that for a long time. I didn't get any pictures but did get some good video.

This is the first trip with the new Honda motor. The motor seem a good half knot slower than the old Nissan. I need to check into getting a speed prop!
We didn't have the new battery charging kit hooked up to see if the battery was charging well. But, we did test the charging kit back at the dock.

Also, as an aside, on the previous trip where I solo sailed to the Back River I saw another sea turtle. This was my best view of one yet.
I saw him for a good thirty seconds and he had his head way up out of the water looking around. That was fun - I turned to get my camera and he was gone.

We covered 191 miles on this trip.

This was a nice easy trip. There was a little too much motoring but there always is on trips like this.
We did get to sail almost a full day on the way back from West Point to Queens Creek - that was very nice.
