Another rainy day.

Morning on Broad Creek - me eating cereal.

On our way into the Yeopim river we spotted a very nice marina and decided that now was a good time to top off our three gas tanks.  The dock attendant was very friendly and told us the marina's name was "Albemarle Plantation Marina" and that we were welcome to moor at the end of one of their docks at NO charge!  We said thanks but that we preferred to anchor out and headed over to an inlet close by.  This was a very nice anchorage and we ended up spending two nights here.

When we topped off the gas I took note of the number of gallons so that I could calculate fuel consumption.  At this point in the trip we had traveled 119.6 miles.  We had consumed 7.3 gallons of gas for a total mileage of 16.4 mpg.  Also, the GPS showed total underway time to be 24 Hours and 21 minutes which worked out to .3 gallons per hour.  I planned to do these calculations so I keep the throttle as close to 3/4 open as possible (Based on RPM by ear <grin>).

So for trip planning purposes...

3/4 Throttle "Thumb Rules"

16 miles per gallon
1/3 gallon per hour at 3/4 throttle

Also before the trip I measured the actual capacity of my main gain tank and found it to be 3.8 gallons.  So, at 3/4 throttle, the main gas tank gives me a max range is 60 miles and a max runtime of 11.4 hours.  Of course for planning purposes I will build in a considerable amount of fudge but at least know I have a reasonable way of knowing how much gas I need for a trip.
