Log #29 - Memorial Day Cruise - May 27, 2003

It was Memorial Day weekend and Saturday and Sunday were rain washouts. I was desperate to get on the water. Monday the forecast looked pretty good. After a good breakfast I headed to the dock and onto the water. Winds were from the north at about 10mph and the tide was going out. I decided to motor to New Port news and then sail back. The water was surprising rough and I was only able to make about 4.5 mph. But just about the time I got close to New Port news the wind changed to the North East which was perfect for my sail back. I sailed all the way back on full sail - main & genoa. I got quite a bit of practice at jibing. It was a wonderful sail - a real tonic. Too bad my wife and son were not with me to enjoy it. I sailed right to my marina where I took down my sails and motored the last 100 yards to my doc. Now, I need many many more of these kinds of days!
