Log #23 - Norfolk Harbor tour with Kerrie & David - September 8, 2002

We left out slip and did a quick pass by the Portsmouth city park; we even saw the smoke from good ol' Pokey-Smokey. Then we headed east towards the Norfolk harbor. This was Kerrie's and David's first tour of the Norfolk harbor. The incredible naval security really stood out. At one point it appear we were being escorted by a inflatable with two armed sailors; they paralleled us keeping themselves between us and the ships. I guess this was to let us know how close we were allowed to approach. Everywhere there were Navy ships there were armed guards on the ships. The outing was about four hours and I think everyone had a good time. Unfortunately we didn't bring anything to eat and everyone was getting a little irritable on the way back.

Going under the West Norfolk bridge, to the "port-side" is the Scale O' de Whale restaurant - yum, yum.
Unfortunately the Scale O' de Whale burned down later and they didn't rebuild. We really miss it.

One of the many, many sailboats out today. Looking towards ODU there were tons of sails in the distance.
